CAMP CH-YO-CA’s Teams

  • Camp CH-YO-CA's Summer directors intentionally foster a unified culture of joyful servanthood. We ask all staff to be ready to teach, listen, or pray for a camper. While also setting an example with words and actions by encouraging participation and supporting other teams when needed.

  • Each summer staff position will be part of a team of individuals that serve a specific purpose. 

  • Each team is greatly valued and contributes to our mission which is equipping, encouraging, and empowering each camper with the Gospel of Jesus.

The application takes about 20 minutes. It will be very helpful for you to prepare this list in advance: Drivers license, Social security number, School year, address, Parents’ address, GPA, Previous employers' phone numbers and email, and Requested off weeks.

You will also need to provide three references. These references may be previous employers, pastors, professors, leaders, or mentors. It is helpful to ask them and to gather their phone number and email before beginning the application.

ESSAY

Instructions will be given after application submission

Essay Guidelines: word document or pdf. Size 14 font. At least one paragraph is expected in each section. You may write as needed to answer the questions sufficiently
In your essay, you will be answering three questions:

  1. How has the Gospel shaped your life?

  2. Why do you want to work at Camp CH-YO-CA this summer?

  3. What are your future goals?

Be open and honest in your essay. We want you to have the best summer possible, and the more information we know, the better we can position you to succeed.


You will be contacted to schedule your first of three interviews either over the phone or in person.

INTERVIEW

You will have three interviews before you are offered a position. The interview may be held over the phone, as a video call, or in person if possible. You may receive a no-hire notification after any step.

Interview 1 will be a casual interview with a returning staff member. The goal is to determine if you will succeed in the CAMP CH-YO-CA culture.

Interview 2 will be with the person who will be your team leader for the summer. If you are applying for multiple teams, then you may have interviews with each leader. The goal is to determine if you will succeed in your role.

Interview 3 will be with John Luke, the executive director. He will make the final call for all hired staff.

  • If you love Jesus, fun, and kids then this is the right camp for you! We have an easy going program that focuses on classic summer camp games, Biblical teaching, worship, and the outdoors.

  • All interviews and hiring will be completed by early February. Applicants will receive an employment offer or no-hire notification letter by March 1st.

  • Staff members must commit to one week of training and eight weeks of camp for nine weeks. Staff may request two weeks off that can be taken together or separately. Off weeks must be approved before May.

  • Yes. There are eight teams: Counselors, Media, Programs, Activities, Office, Maintenance, and Kitchen. All staff are hired for a "base team" and then rotated as needed.

  • All staff stays on the campground on the weekends when staying in town. Staff can check out if they are going on weekend trips.

  • Summer staff must be between the ages of 18-24.

  • $200 a week.
